Advancing Wellness with PRO-SALUD/PRO-HEALTH

PRO-SALUD Cohort receives Stop The Bleed Certification
The inaugural Spanish-language Community Health Worker cohort--Promotores de Salud (PRO-SALUD/PRO-HEALTH)-- just completed its training. The certificate-bearing training focuses on core Community Health Worker (CHW) competencies, including health education, advocacy, and connecting individuals to essential social services, thus equipping Spanish-speaking residents from our surrounding neighborhoods with the skills to join the Community Health Workforce.
Adapted from Columbia’s existing InTOuCH CHW program, Promotores de Salud (PRO-SALUD) launched in June in partnership with the Mexican Coalition for the Empowerment of Youth and Families with 19 trainees completing 63 hours of classroom instruction and 1083 hours of field practice. Trainees collectively reached 739 community members through health education talks, blood pressure screenings, and referrals to social service resources.
The following comments capture the impact of PRO-SALUD on participants in their own words: “Nos cambio la vida y nos permitio integrarnos a la comunidad [It changed our lives, and it allowed us to integrate into the community]...saber que podemos ser útiles a los demás y poder compartir lo aprendido […knowing that we can be useful to others and be able to share what we learned].”
This inaugural cohort not only gained vital professional skills readying them to join the healthcare workforce but also made an immediate and measurable contribution to the health and well-being of our community.
