Research

Extraordinary improvements in our quality of life and our lifespan are due to health research. Research to understand human health, diseases, and healthcare systems has led to new forms of preventing, managing, and treating illness and promoting wellbeing in patients and communities.

Health research involves many types of studies with some involving people, others study patient data, while others look at how care is provided. Researchers, healthcare professionals, non-profit organizations and patients work together to find out how medicines, treatments, and their delivery can improve health. This research can lead to important discoveries and better care for all.

Participating in research as a study participant is an individual decision. Study participants are often motivated to participate in research by the opportunity to improve the health of others. Clinical trials are an option for patients who have exhausted available treatments. Irrespective of the reason for joining a study, research participants contribute to our collective knowledge and health improvement.

To learn more about health research and explore study opportunities visit:

  • ConneCT: ConneCT fosters awareness of health research in our local community through outreach, educational sessions between a research outreach coordinator and individuals to learn more about the purpose and process of health research, and links participants to studies based on individual interests.
  • RecruitMe: RecruitMe is a recruitment tool meant to connect those who want to participate in clinical trials or research studies to the researchers that are conducting them. To begin using RecruitMe all you have to do is search for a medical condition or research field that interests you and then answer a few eligibility questions and the researcher will get right back to you. • Research Match: ResearchMatch is a nonprofit program funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It helps to connect people interested in research studies with researchers from top medical centers across the U.S. Anyone living in the United States, including Puerto Rico, can join ResearchMatch. Researchers also join ResearchMatch and invite you to learn about their studies. Source: ResearchMatch (NIH-funded).
