Welcome to Haven Plaza!

Haven Plaza is a vibrant, car-free public space that connects the medical center campus with the surrounding Washington Heights neighborhood, creating a welcoming, pedestrian-friendly environment for everyone to enjoy. Developed through the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) Plaza Program, Haven Plaza is part of a citywide network of pedestrian plazas across all five boroughs that transform streets into accessible community spaces.

Located in the heart of the medical center campus at 168th Street and Haven Avenue, Haven Plaza is open to the public and supports a wide range of activities and events that promote education, health and wellness, arts and culture, and community engagement. Whether hosting organized programming or serving as a place to gather, relax, and experience the neighborhood, the plaza offers a shared space for connection and collaboration.

Columbia University Irving Medical Center affiliates may request use of Haven Plaza by submitting a plaza request form a minimum of four to six weeks prior to the proposed event. For questions or assistance, please contact Academic & Community Partnerships at 212-305-8060 or acp@cumc.columbia.edu

Community-based organizations interested in hosting an event at Haven Plaza must submit a permit application through the NYC Street Activities Permit Office – SAPO
