MLK Day of Service
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy, we invite all CUIMC community members to dedicate this day to giving back. Join us, along with others across the city and nation, in making a meaningful impact. Below are service opportunities with local organizations that support the Washington Heights-Inwood and Bronx communities and a link to register.
Washington Heights/Inwood Opportunities:
- Altagracia Faith and Justice Works
- Date: Saturday, January 17 | 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
- Location: Holy Trinity Church, 20 Cumming Street NY NY 10034
Altagracia Faith and Justice Works in honor of Dr. King's life is seeking 5-10 volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, and serving light refreshments for their Spoken Word event at Holy Trinity Church.
- NYC Parks: Inwood Hill Park Wetland Restoration
- Date: Monday, January 19 | 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
- Location: Inwood Hill Park Nature Center, 218th Street and Indian Road
Join NYC Parks Stewardship as they celebrate Dr. King's life. Volunteer to protect wetland areas in Inwood Hill Park contributing to ongoing restoration work and learn the importance of species diversity to ecosystem health, as well as removing debris. Limited spots available!
- YM&YWHA
- Date: Monday, January 19 | 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
- Location: The Y, 54 Nagle Avenue NY NY 10040
The YM&YWHA is celebrating Dr. King's life and legacy assembling care packages, creating cards, and making vegetable stew to community members. Join them and the UJA Federation of New York and Northern Manhattan Alumnae Chapter - Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc to help neighbors in need. Unlimited spots available!
Bronx Opportunity:
- Riverdale Y
- Date: Monday, January 19 | 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.; 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.; 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
- Location: Riverdale Y, 56255 Arlington Avenue Bronx NY 10471
The Riverdale Y is seeking volunteers to help set up and break down the space, serve breakfast, assist with meal-packing logistics and engage with participants in light facilitation and reflection. There will be a grief training and are seeking 30+ volunteers per shift.
